This small bust was sculpted after George Stubbs paintings of Eclipse (1764-1789). Eclipse ran in 18 races and was unbeaten. His dominance meant that eventually no owners would put their horses to run against him and Eclipse was sent to stud. It is estimated that he has contributed to 80% of thoroughbreds today and more than a hundred of his descendants have won the Derby.
